Vintage Rolex Submariner ref 5513 (Circa 1983) was one of the longest continually produced references from the brand. Rolex initially used glossy dials in this model and swapped to matte around 1966. Rolex made many variations of the matte dial and this circa 1983 example has a “Maxi” dial. Rolex made these “Maxi” dials from around 1978 to 1984. “Maxi” refers to the lume plots being larger than the ones on previous 5513’s. Collectors have identified 5 different Maxi dial variations and this example has the “Mark V” variety. The Mark V “Maxi dial” is distinguished by the “Submariner” text being longer than the depth rating just below it and the “6” being open. We see collectors gravitate towards these Maxi 5513s because of the bigger lume plots and due to these being the last versions of the matte dial 5513, before Rolex went to glossy dials with white gold surrounding the lume plots around 1984. This example comes directly from the family of the original owner and has retained it’s full kit with box, outer box, punched papers, receipts, serialized hang-tag, anchor, and more! When looking closely the receipt, papers, and hang-tag all have the corresponding serial number matching the watch. Shop Rolex Submariner Collection
