This vintage Rolex Submariner ref. 16800, dating to circa 1984, marks an important evolution in the Submariner lineage as the first reference to feature both a sapphire crystal and 300-meter water resistance. Its 40mm stainless steel case, black dial, and black rotating bezel showcase the timeless design that has defined the Submariner for generations. Powered by the dependable Caliber 3035 automatic movement, this reference offers an ideal balance of vintage character, durability, and everyday wearability.
This vintage Rolex Submariner ref 16800 (1984) is referred to as a transitional model. Rolex went from acrylic to sapphire crystal, an updated movement with quick-set date, and at the beginning of the run the watches featured matte dials like the previous 1680. Later in the production Rolex changed the dials to glossy with white gold surrounds, like the example we have here. This example is in overall great, honest condition with a beautiful and striking atheistic. The lume on the dial has aged to an intense yellow color giving this watch some serious character.
