Vintage Rolex Datejust 36 ref 16013 (1979) helped introduced the caliber 3035, which brought with it a higher beat rate and, more importantly, a Quickset date, something earlier Datejust models didn’t have. It made everyday use a lot easier. At the same time, it still sports an acrylic crystal, so it still has that warmer, slightly softer look that many collectors prefer over sapphire. This one comes in the classic two-tone configuration with a black dial, which adds a bit more contrast compared to the usual champagne setups. It feels a touch sportier, but still unmistakably Datejust. Not long after, Rolex moved on to the ref. 16233 with the caliber 3135 and a sapphire crystal, making this reference one of the last to bridge old and new. Shop Rolex Datejust 36 Collection
