Pre-owned Rolex Daytona ref 116523 (2001 – 2002) initially came to market in 2000 alongside the rest of the 1165XX series. This generation was incredibly important because it helped introduce the beloved motorsport chronograph to the first automatic in-house movement, the caliber 4130. Rolex relied on this engine for many years, only recently replacing it with the caliber 4131 in 2023 alongside the current production Daytona. Passionate collectors are drawn to this model for its place in Rolex history and its distinctive early 2000s aesthetics. The hour markers and sub-dial rings are slightly thicker than those of its successor, ref. 126523.
