Rolex Datejust 36 Ref 16013 Pre-owned Rolex Datejust 36 ref 16013 (1983) is one of the most iconic two-tone Rolex watches around. During the 1980s, the pairing of stainless steel and yellow gold became synonymous with the Datejust, and references like the 16013 helped define that look for an entire generation of collectors. Even today, when many people picture a classic Rolex, they often envision a two-tone Datejust with a fluted bezel much like this one. What makes the ref. 16013 particularly interesting is that it bridges the gap between vintage and modern Rolex design. It has the vintage acrylic crystal that collectors love, yet it also houses the caliber 3035, a significant upgrade over earlier Datejust movements. The caliber 3035 brought with it a higher beat rate and, perhaps most importantly, a Quickset date function. Rather than advancing the hands through multiple 24-hour cycles to change the date, the wearer can adjust it directly through the crown, a convenience that was a major innovation at the time. This example also features Tritium lume plots positioned above each stick hour marker. Decades later, they have aged into a lovely patina.
