Pre-owned Rolex GMT-Master II ref 16718 (1991) was the last all-gold Rolex GMT to feature an aluminum bezel before it was discontinued and replaced by the first generation of ceramic bezel GMTs. This fact alone makes it a very prized collector’s item among watch enthusiasts. The 1671X enjoyed a long production run spanning the late 1980s into the mid-2000s. During that time, Rolex used different types of luminescent material for the dial, made a few small changes to the case and bracelet, and even upgraded the movement near the tail of its production. The example you see here from the early 1990s features Tritium lume, the earlier caliber 3185 (which would eventually be replaced by the caliber 3186), and a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.
