This special edition is unique for its rich tobacco-brown dial. The warm color palette gives the watch a vintage aesthetic while still being very modern. Inside the stainless steel case is a self-winding chronograph movement with a 44-hour power reserve, day and date display, and exceptional legibility thanks to its high-contrast pilot’s dial and luminescent hands and markers. Like other IWC pilot’s watches, it also features a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields and a specially engineered sapphire crystal designed to withstand sudden pressure changes in the cockpit. Turning the watch over reveals an engraving of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, the aircraft Saint-Exupéry flew on his final reconnaissance mission, making this reference a fitting tribute to one of aviation’s greatest icons.
